Fun & Creativity with Learning in Mind.

Meaningful play encourages curiosity, discovery and problem solving which allows individual growth and development of a positive self-image.

Art

Art can help children learn and practice skills like patterning and cause and effect (i.e., “If I push very hard with a crayon the color is darker.”).

They can also practice critical thinking skills by making a mental plan or picture of what they intend to create and following through on their plan.

Music

Music ignites all areas of child development and skills for school readiness, including intellectual, social-emotional, motor, language, and overall literacy.

It helps the body and the mind work together. Exposing children to music during early development helps them learn the sounds and meanings of words.

Movement

Research suggests that promoting movement and activity in young children can help increase memory, perception, language, attention, emotion and even decision making.

When language is combined with movement, learning increases 90 percent.

What we do at Shell's Playroom

Language

Language development is an important part of child development. It supports your child's ability to communicate. It also supports your child's ability to: express and understand feelings.

As children develop speaking and listening skills, they're building the foundations for literacy and learning. Plus they're learning key skills like how to explain their thoughts verbally and make friends.

Educational Play

Educational Play (such as building blocks etc.) allows a child to learn the skills of negotiation, problem solving, sharing, and working within groups.

Children practice decision-making skills, move at their own pace and discover their own interests during play.

Educational Play may lead to more physical movement and healthier children.

Outside Play

Children need to remain active throughout the day; promoting outdoor play allows them to get fresh air and explore their environment more.

Hands-on learning, the natural environment and loose parts in the outdoors stimulate children's senses through what they hear, touch, see and feel. Being sleepy at bedtime is always an added bonus!
